Easy DIY squirrel-proof platform bird feeder in an afternoon!
#diy #easywoodworking #diyideas
Building a bird feeder is a perfect way to introduce yourself (or kids!) to the joys of woodworking AND bird-watching. Our little songbirds need help during the colder months because they can lose one third of their body weight overnight trying to stay warm! A squirrel-proof platform feeder appeals to all varieties of songbirds, including cardinals, blue jays, finches, nut hatches, chickadees, grosbeaks, and red-winged blackbirds. It's also a big help for birds that can't handle complicated little feeders and prefer to forage on the ground (or on a platform) like sparrows, flickers, and juncos. Skills you'll learn include drilling, screwing, counter-sinking...

    I loved seeing the clockwork toys! The clock mechanisms reminded me of when I removed the second hands from every clock at home to make them quieter. I became over-confident and ended up ruining my mum's living room clock, so I had to buy a new mechanism and replace it. 😆

    Make the peg slightly shorter so the taper is further up making the diameter larger to fit the hole better and it goes in the hole deeper.

    Well, the clamping part was... entertaining. (Been there myself: 'cept that when it was happening to me I didn't find it entertaining! 😤 ) That peeling off a sliver of wood to hide the nail looks golden! Thanks! Wish I had watched your video before I built that frame that was almost ruined because the pin nails weren't buried deep enough to fill the holes.

    Your builds would be alot easier if you pirchased the proper tools.( I.E clamps) not to be rude or discourage you. But you teally shouldn't be wearing long sleves when operating any power tool. The risk of static electricity drawing in the fabric is quite high. And on the subject of the build, common nails tend to work lose with humidity and temperature change. As wood tends to expand and contract be it how ever little ,It's enough to losen up the nails over time. "learn to do the simple things in woodworking correctly and the harder ones be come easier"

    What about if dont have any source of humidity ..no bathroom , no dryer

    • @toolgirl
      @toolgirl 26 дней назад

      Basements can be damp because rainwater is getting in through the walls or windows, and they can be naturally damp in humid climates because moisture condenses on cold surfaces (i.e. how the outside of a glass gets wet when you fill it with ice water). So moisture can build up in a basement, particularly in summer, even if you don't have a bathroom or dryer installed downstairs.

    Hi there, an off topic comment which I hope isn’t inappropriate. A fellow Canadian and talented furniture refinisher/repairer (female) also has a RUclips channel, John’s Furniture Repair . She is currently going through a difficult time mainly from an either unscrupulous or incompetent company mismanaging the build of her new shop, as well as health issues AND (one of those years). Her last video explains the whole saga. As the original Canadian woman with a shop, I think it would lift her spirits if you were to drop her a comment. Her followers are covering her losses, but a little sprinkling of celebrity dust would help too! ❤
